Ukrainian Elections
This blog gets started the day on which the main news item is about mass demonstrations in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, in protest against allegedly rigged election results.
I was in Ukraine twice, last in 1970, when I went there with a tour group of members of KQED, the Public TV station of the San Fransisco Bay area.
The first time Ukraine had come to me. On September 17, 1939, I was in the Polish town of Kowel; having got there the previous evening after a long walk (of 2 1/2 weeks). The next day the Red Army came marching in "to save their Ukrainian brethren from hunger and German bombing raids". That was the beginning of the Ukrainian town of Kovel. World War II had started at the beginning of the month with the Nazi invasion of Poland.
Probably more on that later.
